CONFIDE

Sir,

226

New Government Building,

Des Voeux Road,

Hongkong.

12th July, 1916.

I am directed by my Committee to thank you for your

letter of the 5th July, 1916 outlining the policy adopted by the Hongkong Government with regard to Enemy owned Trade Marks.

My Committee have given very careful consideration

to the views of the Government and they now desire me to reply

therate seriatim.

2.

With reference to paragraph 2, I am to state that

the Chamber still holds the view referred to, there being no

question but that depreciation in value of trade marks will develop

with disuse. As time goes on, however, the views of this Chamber and of Trade Authorities throughout the Empire expand and develop further towards carrying the war more vigorously into the Enemy's

trade. It seems superfluous to point out that these views are seconded in varied degree by H. M.'s Imperial Government as evidenced

by the application of more and more vigorous measures taken against Enemy trade.

3.

As to paragraph 3, of your letter under reply,

strong feeling prevails in the membership of the Chamber that this

Colony in common with the rest of the Empire, should contribute to

and share in the advocacy of a more and more vigorous campaign against

enemy
